Walking and high altitude

Guided treks to Mount Etna’s summit craters

Compare the planned route, actual walking time and transport. A Tour 3000 can have a different programme from a summit trek: start with the itinerary, not the altitude in the name.

Destination and route

A view of the craters is different from the planned summit route.

Walking and elevation gain

Separate transport from walking and check fitness requirements.

Transport and total cost

A cable car in the name does not tell you which tickets are included.

Tour 3000 or summit trek: compare the programme

The name and altitude are not enough: compare the planned destination, walking, transport and alternatives. No itinerary or altitude is guaranteed.

From the meeting point to the walking section

Find the precise meeting point and check whether you must travel there independently. City transfers, cable car and high-altitude vehicles are separate services.

Compare walking time, elevation gain and terrain with your experience. Confirm required equipment and accepted ages with the provider.

If the programme changes

Weather, volcanic activity and restrictions may change the route. Read the conditions for alternatives, postponements and cancellation; a changed route does not automatically mean a refund.

Check who guides the trek and the qualifications declared for the route. Monitoring charts and webcam images do not grant access or guarantee an altitude.

Compare guiding, cable-car and hire costs

Use the same date and participants. Include every compulsory cost without counting included services twice.

Before you book

Are Tour 3000 and a summit trek the same?

Not necessarily. Compare the planned destination, transport, walking, elevation gain and meeting point. Viewing the craters is different from walking along a rim.

Is the stated altitude guaranteed?

No. Conditions and restrictions can change the destination. Check how the provider manages alternatives and cancellations.

Are cable car and vehicles included?

Inclusions depend on the product and option. Check separate tickets and transfers, even when cable car appears in the activity name.

Can webcams or tremor charts tell me if I can climb?

No. Monitoring does not authorise access. Check official restrictions and confirm the programme with the provider.
